I really like this game. Great concept. Quickly becomes really taxing, but still fun to play. Some of the levels that seem really hard actually have a really simple solution. Dude still needs to build a growroom though.

Lock the keyboard so it doesn't cause the page to scroll!

The controls feel really muted. The character feels too slow and doesn't jump high enough. Also, the bat shouldn't start moving until the player does, or there should be a brief countdown at the start. It's not always clear what's an obstacle/enemy.

Pretty good. I managed to beat it. There should be a score penalty for each click.

Also, the game is cut off around the edges.

JelleVermandere responds:

Thanks, that's a good idea, i'll see what I can do about the cropping

I also use Stencyl, so it's always good to see other people using it. I played through the game to get each ending, (the river scene gave me trouble until I figured out what I was supposed to do.)

You got some interesting ideas here, but it needs lots of work. I note you're using stock/found graphics but don't worry about that. Graphics are easy to replace.

Bullets bounce off enemies rather than being destroyed, and it's not always clear where you should be heading. Some collision shapes are also a bit off.

However, keep learning and keep improving.

Thank you so much for your feedback! This is my first time using Stencyl so it contained a lot of experimenting. I'll definitely try to work on the collisions and bullet some more when I get the free time.

I really want to rate this higher, but I'm not a fan of the controls. As I have to use mouse AND keyboard, why not have up to jump? Then you could actually ditch the mouse and have space as shoot.

Wall jumping is also tricky but in a frustrating way, not a challenging one.

EDIT: It could do with checkpoints. On the second level, after falling in a pit and having to restart from the beginning, after struggling again with the wall jump for a couple of minutes I almost ragequit. Why not add ladders instead?

I actually like the graphics, but you should make objects you can't collide with (those girders) much darker than regular tiles. Also, there needs to be some clear way of knowing what pits I can jump into, and which ones will kill you.

TheAngelicDog responds:

Thanks, you rated it higher than I would have thought.

I'm a mouse-and-keyboard person, so I'm used to it and thought it worked fine, but would just having keyboard be more beneficial overall? I also understand the wall jumping. I would like to make it smoother and not even challenging, but I've no idea how!

If you have any other faults that you didn't mention, I'll try to tackle them.

The colour scheme is really hard on the eyes. Needs more contrast.

Good job. This is really challenging, though it does get a little easier when you finally understand the mechanics.

It's ok for a demo, but as a game, it needs a lot more.

It's ok, and the controls are smooth, but it needs more to do, and more health drops.
